Multistream

It’s sometimes useful to stream to multiple locations at once, this is easy to setup in 2024, however be aware that Twitch has guidelines on simulcasting as they describe it. Streamers are advised to understand these guidelines and apply them as appropiate.

There are several ways of multistreaming, however some come with additional costs. The way I recommend multistreaming is using the Aitum.tv plugin.

Pre-requisites

To be able to multistream you will need a recent version of OBS and a plugin:

  • OBS Studio v30 or higher,
  • Aitum Multistream OBS plugin,
  • A reasonably fast internet connection, you will need about 10mbps of upload speed, you can check this on SpeedTest.
  • A recent graphics card (GPU) as it may be nessecary to encode two separate streams.
  • Streaming details for your service you want to stream to:
    • Server URL / RTMP / RTSP Server (this might be an IP address, i.e. 123.45.67.89)
    • Stream Key

Setup

After you have installed Aitum Multistream:

  1. Choose DocksAitum Multistream from the menu bar,
  2. A new dock will appear initially only with “Built-in stream” listed,
  3. Click the ⚙ item at the bottom of the dock,
  4. From the Main Canvas tab click + Add,
  5. Click Other Service:
    1. Enter an Output Name to describe the new service,
    2. Enter the Server URL into the Server box,
    3. Enter the Stream Key into the Stream Key box.

The default settings are likely sufficient to multistream, however if the service you are streaming to requires you to change encoders or audio settings you can access these from ⚙ Advanced Settings.

At this point you will be able to go live on both services, you can see the status of the seconds stream from the dock. I recommend docking it somehwere into OBS so you can monitor it while streaming.
